It’s finally here!

It’s finally here, round 1 of the 2016 season and what a mammoth pre-season journey it has been.

Firstly, I would like to personally thank our new committee members that have worked their butts off since December last year, preparing for this weekend. We have had many bumps and scrapes, along the way. Things have gone well, things not so well but they have persevered with lots of blood sweat and tears and I am grateful to them for their commitment.

To our fantastic coaches and Managers, this weekend is also for you, for the commitment to the teams you are guiding we are truly grateful as a club to you. You have an incredibly tough job. You are not only a coach, you are a person to look up to, a leader, a confidant, you are an inspiration to your teams, you are a guiding figure in young people’s lives giving them encouragement and hope for their futures.

To our Volunteers I am also humbled by the number of you out there offering support and assistance to all of our kids, some of you are helping teams that you child doesn’t play for. That is what a club is all about, lending a hand where-ever it is required. This spirit builds a strong culture to ensure clubs like ours continue to thrive and grow, and success follows from the efforts put in by many.

To our fantastic players, I wish you all the best for this season. You have been training hard for months now, this weekend is for you all is to be the best player you can be. Give it your all, win lose or draw this season, representing the Leopards is a fantastic opportunity to be a part of. Your team mates will look out for you, they will inspire you, they will pick you up when you are down as you will do for them. This is the essence of what a football team is, a team of mates and friends that encourage no matter what the situation.

I look forward to seeing you all out there representing the Leopards (“the prowl”) this season.

Good Luck to you all.

Club Update April 2016

This season we have entered 19 teams into the Junior and Youth competitions. With 5 extra teams from last season it has been a huge effort to get the teams finalised.  Our club is purely run by volunteers, energetic and passionate people who continue to help the Leopards go from strength to strength and I am grateful to all of the members who have taken up positions right through the club.  With the increased numbers there is a bigger requirement of volunteers and I encourage all of you to ask your managers, how you can help the team you child plays for.

Welcome to our 5 new coaches: Jamie Sweet (under 6 Lions), Chris Meadow (under 6 Suns), Angela and Lauren (under11 Girls), Helena McNaught (under 13 Girls), Josh Jenkin (under 17 boys) thank you to all of you welcome to the Leopards we wish your teams well for the season ahead.

After a long preseason of training (some teams started in January) our season starts on the weekend of the 15-17th of April, I look forward to seeing you all out there representing the Leopards with pride.

Thank you Algester Sports Club

Thank you to the Algester sports club for their continuing support of the Calamvale Leopards over the past decade or so.

We are truly grateful for their donation to our club which was presented yesterday during our Junior bowls day, that was a huge success.

Thanks to John and Damon from Algester sports club committee and management  with some of our kids presenting their cheque.

Barefoot Bowls at Algester Sports is a great idea for your next function or corporate event! They even provide instructors, so people new to the game will have a great time. They can also provide catering.

And we’re off!

As we move closer to the commencement of the season it is great to see the field covered with kids most nights of the week. There is an increase in the participation numbers this season and it is great to see.

Auskick is well underway with almost 60 kids participating each Friday night, many kids from the program will become club Leopards boosting our under 6 and under 8 teams and allow us to keep their fixtures at our ground. No travelling….

Our youth team numbers are looking strong, however there is still more players required for the under 12 boys and the under 13 girls.

We are hosting an inter club challenge with Narangba Crows on Sunday the 20th of March where all of our youth teams will be playing their first trial match for the year. I encourage all of you to come to the club and watch some great footy and help support both clubs as we prepare for the season. Games will commence around 9:00 and the last match for the day will commence at about 2:30.

You all would have noticed the new signage on the clubhouse and at the front of the field thank you to Hayden (Sign Essentials) for you continued support of the club by providing the signs for our sponsors, there will be more to come as we move closer to the season.
