Under 9 Blue versus Forest Lake (away) on June 19th.
The Blues played away against Forest Lake in a pretty evenly matched contest. With improvements being made each week the boys played well to record a close victory. Both sides including supporters should be proud of the way each side competed and it was a real pleasure to watch from the sidelines. There was not much between the two sides and it made for a flowing game with plenty of scoring opportunities. Our guys are starting to understand things like moving to space and using teammates better as each game goes by.
The two Mitches played their best games ever and were never far from one another in some memorable exchanges, marking strongly and kicking further than ever before. Andrew was as ever a powerful force all over the ground being a ferocious competitior.
Phillip continues to display his massive kicking skills and is a prime target for us to deliver the ball to. Kaleb got in and battled for the ball and once he works on his left foot kicks will be twice the player whilst Travis and Riley were as solid as ever scurrying around the packs for the ball.
Flynn continues to mature as a footballer each week and works well with his teammates whilst Christian, as todays captain produced a strong marking display and gained the man of the match award. The captaincy seems to bring out the best in our players - remarkable how many skippers pick up the award!
We will continue to work on our individual skills as well as the game scenarios at training for the rest of the year and look to continue our learning of the game overall. Well done boys, keep enjoying it!
The behaviour from both sides, the support from the sidelines where parents and coaches from both clubs cheered both teams efforts, and the great umpiring made for an enjoyable footy match.

Under 9 Red v Sherwood 6/6/2010
At home this week in beautiful conditions against a Sherwood side that towered over our boys. They looked like giants so I put it to the boys to not be intimidated and fight with everything they had at each contest and their skill level would be the difference. It wasn't long before we started piling on the goals and the boys seemed to really enjoy the physicality of the bigger opposition. Man of the match and captain was Thomas who has adopted the role of playing a kick behind play and with his ability to read the game as good as anyone is making it a very successful tactic. Players player was Bailey who was challenged by the coach to change part of his game to make him more effective and responded brilliantly. Coach-ability is a very handy skill to have in football fellas. To be be able to take coaching tips and incorporate it into your game will always allow you to improve. Patrick and Ryan showed their star qualities again and I'm running out of words to describe how good they've been but all you guys must be warned I'm going to up the anti on the whole team. You guys have been great and I think it's time for me to take it to the next level. I know you boys are ready for it.
Dylan showed some great footy thinking which i spoke to the group about at half time. Nick is coming into his own and if the opposition starts to focus too much on other players in his zone, he will carve them up. James, Zac and Nathaniel were all rock solid for 4 qtrs.
Lastly a special thanks to the three boys who helped us out from other teams. Rylie, Alex and Oscar all contributed to the team having a fun loaded, successful, action packed game of footy. Well done Reds......
Under 9 RED v BLUE
UNDER 9 RED vs CALAMVALE BLUE
The local derby showcased some fantastic footy from both Calamvale teams. The Reds started the game where they left off the week before and put in a fine 4 qtr effort scoring plenty of goals right through the entire match. Captain and man of the match was Patrick who put in another stellar performance and showed why he's one of the best under 9's going around. The players player went to Dylan who was rewarded for his consistent and persistent efforts for the season thus far. I put a challenge to Nathaniel and Nick during the game which spurred them to both have their best games for the year so far. Ryan was fantastic with his speed and willingness to share it around. Bailey and Thomas are striking up a great little combination which resulted in a couple of goals where the one in the better position received a handball to get the easier shot away. James managed to surprise me again with his ability to read the game and know when to inject himself and go on one of his devastating runs. All in all another positive step forward in the boys development and I have to say how proud of them I am when it comes to playing under different umpires every week and their ability to adapt quickly to the different umpires interpretation of different rules. It can't be easy but our guys just roll with it with not a drama. A real credit to our club. Keep it up Reds!!
