President Report LinksPresident Report - Trophy Day - 2007 President Report - Trophy Day - 2006 President Report - Trophy Day - 2005 President Report - Trophy Day - 2004 President Report for Season Start 2004 President Report - Trophy Day - 2007I have the greatest pleasure in reporting an enormously successful year for the Calamvale Leopards JAFC. This success, both on and off the field, is a reflection on the pride and commitment to our great game and club by every player, parent, volunteer and sponsor. Your combined efforts have made a big contribution to the development of our club. We have moved on from being considered as a fledgling and of little consequence by other well established clubs, to the point where we are seen as a long term competitor and threat by these same clubs. We are now regularly approached by numerous other clubs for advice on off-field operation of club issues – based purely on the recognition by these peers of our club’s success. As president, this recognition of our club and the hardworking individuals who are responsible makes me extremely proud. I’ll try to touch on a number of important items from the year. With a reasonable pre-season turn out well underway for our youth teams, Paul Longley and his band of helpers got underway with our well managed Auskick program which had around 85 participants. Sign on weekend was very busy, and by the time the season got underway, we had around 250 players registered in 19 teams (looking back, we had 140 players in 2003). Our major sponsor (Algester Sports) committed to its ongoing support of the club, and we welcomed several new sponsors (as well as a large number of returning financial supporters) willing to contribute their resources to Calamvale Leopards. To all of these businesses and individuals, I thank you on behalf of every player. The introduction of the Goalathon was received with outstanding results – nearly 220 players now have club jackets with their name on them, and the club raised much needed funds for footballs, training equipment and other much needed resources. Our 13 Auskick teams had a fantastic year, culminating in our U/9 team winning the Alexandra Hills Carnival (back to back). We were able to initiate the introduction of our satellite club at Park Ridge High School – in conjunction with AFL Queensland and PRHS AFL School of excellence, this satellite club will be developed for the benefit of AFL and Calamvale Leopards players in future years. Our 6 Youth teams also had an enormously successful year. This is the first year we have had more than 1 team make the finals - 4 teams participated in the finals with the end result being 2 premiership cups and a runner-up. 2 memorable moments from my perspective were watching Calamvale 1 and Calamvale 2 play each other in the Youth Girls Grand Final; AND the fantastic come from behind win over Springwood by our U/16 team in their grand final. Moments such as these are the cornerstone of building our club history, tradition and culture – not to mention the enormous pride that every person associated with this club can feel towards these players, their parents and coaching staff. On the representative front, once again a huge success, with no fewer than 10 players making representative teams from under 16 to MetWest, including our first state representative player – Teneal Lyons who was selected in the U/18 Womens team to play in the series against Victoria; Michael Kiely who won the association best and fairest medal and Dominic Beer who was selected to train with the Taipans U/18 squad. I could go on for much longer talking about this fantastic club and the people that make it up, but really need to thank those that have made the journey possible so far: Committee members, Canteen convenors and helpers, managers, first aid, coaches, volunteers, parents and most importantly – the players. Every one of you deserve special thanks and recognition. On behalf of the committee, I would like to thank everyone for their support and contribution to junior football in our community and look forward to seeing you next season at the Leopards. Sincerely Brendan Selby. 2007 Club President. President Report - Trophy Day - 2006This year has seen our club continue to increase and grow in participation numbers, infrastructure and development; it is great to see so much interest in AFL in our area. We have 18 teams, over 270 players registered and over 85 juniors participated in our Auskick program back in February this year. We have also established a pathway to senior football with the formation of the “Calamvale Leopards Senior AFC”, which will soon incorporate under 18’s football that will give our under 16’s a much better transition into the senior ranks from our junior and youth competition. Another very important inclusion at the Leopards this year has been our youth girls in the inaugural season, the Leopards are the only club to have two teams playing in the Afl Brisbane Juniors youth girls competition a team in each age group under 13’s and under 16’s. Another major step in our development this year as a football club is the nomination and fielding of two under 12 teams. Our club has come a long way in a short amount of time and it is important that our kids continue to play, have fun and enjoy the great game that is AFL! It was also a fantastic effort this year by our under 9 and under 10 representative teams that played at the Alexander Hills carnival, both teams after a long day won their respective grand finals and as a result Calamvale Leopards became the first club in the events 15 year history to win both age groups in the same year. Well done everyone for a great display of team football and most of all club spirit. Our infrastructure this year was given a huge boost thanks to Brisbane City Council through funding supplied and installed our lights and also contributed towards the cost of the terracing in front of the club house. We are fortunate to have the support of council through Karen Struthers MLA and Cr Kevin Bianchi; their support has been instrumental in securing grants and funding for our club over a number of years. I would like to thank Kevin and Karen for their continuing support in 2006. Again this year our sponsors have been there for the club and most importantly our kids. Thank you all so much for your support; with your help we are able to keep costs lower than any other club affiliated with the AFL Brisbane Juniors. Your support is appreciated and essential to continue the success of our junior football club. Thank you to Algester Sports for being our Major sponsor for 2006; it has been a three year association that I hope will continue in 2007. To all our volunteers, mums and dads, friends and the families of our future AFL stars, thank you for another great year at the Leopards. Thank you to the committee for your support and tireless efforts throughout the season, once again you have all done an incredible job thank you very much. AFL is alive in Calamvale! Go Leopards! Claude Sansiveri President Calamvale Leopards JAFC Inc. President Report - Trophy Day - 2005Our fifth year at the Calamvale leopards Junior Australian Football Club has seen the club achieve and set new milestones that we all should be very proud of, on and off the oval. In our short history we have grown to be one of the largest junior clubs in the AFL Brisbane Juniors league with 247 registered players. A new club house on the hill, lighting set to be completed by the end of the year and storage shed are all facilities that have and will help continue our club to grow and prosper in the future. The next stages in planning for our facilities are and should be:
In my opinion the above facilities are essential for our club to achieve the standards required for a top level club a goal worth striving for. We also need to improve on how we promote and support our sponsors, a scoreboard and fencing would enable us to advertise around the ground and attract new sponsors to our club. Club houseThis year to the credit of the committee a concentrated effort was made to pay off the outstanding amount remaining on the club house which was achieved before schedule. A huge financial burden erased that will enable us to seek out funding for the next major upgrade to the facility in the future. Registrations and football operations
Sponsorship and FundraisingSponsorship this year has been a huge positive and mutually beneficial as we strive to support our sponsors throughout the club. One of the benefits registering to play with us this year was to provide membership to Algester Sports Inc. As our Major Sponsor it is important that we continue to support them and all our sponsors in a manner that enhances and promotes their business. I would like to thank Algester Sports and all our sponsors this year for their generosity and support, and I sincerely hope that our association continues well into the future for the benefit of our youth within the community. Fundraising is a major part of raising revenue for our club and our Trivia night was a huge success, thank you Ian Patterson for organising the event and coordinating the fundraising this year. CanteenFor the first time we had full canteen facilities at the club for the whole season providing extra revenue that will go towards the purchase of essential equipment for next year. Thank you Cathy Selby and Donna Meddings for your tireless efforts in ordering, managing and organising the canteen and all the wonderful volunteers that helped out during the year. Finally I would like to thank the Committee for another successful year and job well done. Being on the committee this year has been enjoyable and rewarding, just to see all the boys and girls out there getting a kick, having fun and developing skills social skills included a common goal for all of us; it’s all about the kids. Thank you it has been a pleasure. The growth of our club and the continued development of our footballers will see our club reach and set new goals and benchmarks in the future. The passion for our great game at times is awe-inspiring right through our club, from our junior/youth footballers to parents and many volunteers that support our club AFL has found a home in Calamvale and we are here to stay. Once again I would like to thank everyone for a great year, wish you all a safe and happy off-season and I do sincerely hope to see you all back next year, which promises to be even better and as enjoyable. Claude Sansiveri President Report - AGM - 20042004 has been a tremendous year for the Leopards. This was the fourth year that the Club has been in existence and it was our most successful so far. This was evident with the completion of the Clubhouse and Changing Rooms during the year; achieving record enrolments in the Auskick program; and our Under 8 age group fielding eight teams. All this goes well for the future of the Club. In fact, overall we reached the total of 208 registrations for all teams which I think is an outstanding achievement. In addition, our three junior teams in the Under 12’s, 14’s and 16’s all made the finals, with the Under 14 team making the Grand Final. Well done boys, and to coach Bob Trapnell and Manager Lynda Lyons, and although we did not win, we tried our hardest and only lost by 7 points at the final siren. We hope that you can go one better next year! Bob Trapnell with the support of Bruce Stewart and Ian Patterson began the season in February with an introduction to the Auskick program that ran for eight weeks with approximately 100 participants. The Auskick program is a marvellous introduction to Australian Football and allows all children to learn the basic skills from an early age. Many of these children were also encouraged to join the Leopards in the Under 8’s competition and this year we fielded a record eight teams, and two of these teams rotated and played against other teams in the Western Region. Bob Trapnell was rewarded for his hard work around the Club by being voted the ‘Auskick Coordinator of the Year’ at the Western Taipans Dinner and Presentation night at Lennon’s Hotel on August 15. Bob was also voted the "Club Person of the Year" at our annual Trophy Day in September. The clubhouse and changing rooms was at last completed near the end of the season and now we have a building to be proud of. I would also like to acknowledge the support of the Gambling Community Benefit fund that approved a grant of $29,955.00 toward the ?fitting out? of our changing rooms and clubhouse. That is, they provided funding for the kiosk- cupboards, benches and sink, the hot water systems, and in the changing rooms the portioning between the WC?s, the wash basins, the WC?s the tap ware and fittings as well as the floor and wall tiling and interior painting. Thanks also to the Brisbane City Council for a further grant of $20,000 toward the construction of the building, and to Councillor Kevin Bianchi for encouraging us to apply. I would particularly like to thank the builders, Phillip Usher Constructions for helping us to finally achieve this major task for the club and in particular Michael Langton, David Haines and George Turner. I would also like to thank Murray Bell and Ray Mazoletti for the time and effort they have put in to help supervise the construction of the building, with the electrical work being installed under the excellent supervision of Shane Hackles at minimal cost. A big thank you to everyone that donated their time or building materials toward the new clubhouse, there are too many to mention by name in this report. As I stated earlier, registration figures for the Club in 2004 have now reached approximately 208 registered players, which I think is an outstanding effort. I would sincerely like to thank our registrar Russell Harris for his hard work and dedication to the job. Russell came into the job with very little experience and has done a fantastic job in bringing all our records up to date as well as helping with the newsletter. Thank you so much Russell! Thanks also to Michael O’Farrell and Murray Bell for representing the Leopards on the Links Committee, that has helped to re-establish harmonious relationships with Calamvale Community College and the Brisbane City Council. We have a new major sponsor Algester Sports Club for 2004 and 2005, and they have been a wonderful support to our Club not only donating the sum of $7,500 in 2004, and $10,000 for 2005 but also providing the use of their facilities free of charge for management committee meetings, our trophy day and fund raising activities. Thank you Di Dealy and your wonderful staff for your generous support throughout the year. We held a very successful Trivia Night at Algester Sports Club at which we raised $1200 as well as auctioning off a framed Lions jumper for $1250. Thanks to Bruce Stewart and Cathy Selby for organising the program on the night, and also to Richard and Wendy Banks from Algester Little Athletics for being quizmasters. I would also like also to take this opportunity to thank our other sponsors such as Prime Haulage, The Good Guys, Bakers Delight, and Southern Pacific Foods as well as our team sponsors for their support throughout the season. As I stated earlier the Leopards have had a very successful year but there is no room for complacency in 2005. There is still much to be done in the next few years, we have an urgent need for lighting the oval for training and would also enable us to be able to hold evening matches. Unfortunately our grant for lighting to Jupiter’s Casino Benefit Fund was not successful. This should be our number one priority for 2005. We also need to also consider future landscaping of the slope where the Clubhouse is built so as to provide spectator seating and to generally beautify the area, as well as providing shade for children and their parents. One thing I feel very strongly about is now the time is right for the Club to make the change to add the word Calamvale before the Leopards to officially become the "Calamvale Leopards". We need to be called the Calamvale Leopards because we:
The other area we need to improve on is the need to encourage, promote and support our major and minor sponsors. We definitely need more sponsors for 2005 as it is a very competitive market out there in the business world. Sponsors generally have a number of sporting clubs that contact them, and they have to choose from the ones that give them something back for their money, such as with signage rights around the ground, promotion in newsletters, etc. It is no longer enough to just give them a ‘sausage and a can of soft drink’ as a reward to our main sponsors. This is why we are asking your support to include in the 2005 football membership fees the cost of a family membership to Algester Sports Club. We hope that you will support this fee increase as Algester Sports were/are sponsoring us for significant amounts of money in 2004 and 2005, and are very supportive of our Club. I would finally like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all members of the Management Committee, our coaching coordinator Brendan Selby, Cathy Selby and Shane Ricketts who stepped in to help with the Acting Treasurer’s role, our dedicated group of coaches and managers, umpires, first aid officials (particularly Julie Ricketts), canteen workers (particularly Ann Wild), and parents who have provided their time, effort and support to encourage young people in our area to play Australian Rules football with the Leopards. Unfortunately we lost the services of several members of the Committee during the year, Tom O’Connor (Vice President), Robert Auld (Treasurer), Helen Hewett (who took over as the new Treasurer, also resigned before the end of the season), Jody Hall (Assistant Treasurer) and Mary Sutton from Fund Raising, however we were pleased to welcome Shane Hackles and Julie Ricketts as new members. I would particularly like to pay tribute to our hard working Secretary Michelle Conlon, for her dedicated work for the Club over the last few years. As most of you know I am standing down as President for 2005 because of work commitments. I wish to thank those members of the Management Committee that have supported me in the role of President in 2004 and I hope that the new Committee will all work together for the future of the Club. Sincerely,
Ian Patterson Club President - 2004 President Report - Trophy Day - 2004

The Auskick program is a marvelous introduction to Australian Football and allows all children to learn the basic skills from an early age. Sincerely,
Ian Patterson Club President - 2004 President Report for Season Start 2004Welcome to a new footy season in 2004! It certainly going to be an exciting year – we have a relatively new and enthusiastic Management Committee, a new major sponsor- Algester Sports, the building of our new Clubhouse and Changing Rooms has commenced at the main oval at Calamvale Community College (cnr. Beaudesert and Nottingham Roads), and there has been a huge increase in the numbers of boys and girls joining the Leopards and wanting to play Australian football. This all goes well for the future of our Club! I would like to introduce myself as the new President of the Leopards for 2004, I feel very honoured and privileged to be elected President and to lead a very enthusiastic Management Committee. This year I wanted to involve all members in the decision making process and have opted for a sub-committee structure that involves the following areas: President: Ian Patterson Football Operations & Equipment: Tom O’Connor, Brendan Selby, & Russell Harris This year there is a general feeling of optimism and excitement around the Club with everyone working well together to make sure that we have the best prepared football teams, the best qualified coaches and managers to support them, and the required number of qualified umpires and first aid officials to successfully begin the season on a positive note. I would like to take the opportunity to thank our major sponsor Algester Sports and its hard working Manager Diane Dealy for entering into a two year partnership with the Leopards. Algester Sports is contributing $7,500 in the first year and $10,000 in the second (with an option for a third year). Thank you also to our other minor sponsors and team sponsors who have contributed money to help support the individual teams throughout the year. It is important to realise that our Club is only in the fourth year of operation and we should recognise the history of the Club. The Leopards were originally housed temporarily at St. Bernadine’s Catholic Primary School, Regents Park, and in its inaugural year in 2001 the Club attracted 97 players plus 35 Aus kick participants. I would also like to acknowledge the two past Presidents of the Leopards, Claude Sansiveri and Wayne Ryan who gave much of their time to help establish and build this Club to what it is today. In 2004 we hope to go over the 200 player mark and have approximately 100 Aus kick participants. The population explosion in the South east region is largely due to this increase in player numbers, as well as the tremendous success of the Brisbane Lions who have won three successive AFL Premierships in a row between 2001-2003. Presently the Club is building a new Clubhouse and Changing Rooms at Calamvale Community College which are due to be completed by the end of April or early May, 2004. I would like to personally acknowledge the support of Councillor Kevin Bianchi who has helped us in building our new facility. Kevin has worked with us to arrange a grant of $20,000 from the Brisbane City Council, and has been supportive and helped sort out problems that have arisen between the Council and the builder. I would also like to acknowledge and thank the builders, Philip Usher Constructions who have been very supportive of helpful with this project. Finally I would like to acknowledge all the volunteer coaches, managers, umpires, first aid officials, canteen workers, ground officials and everyone else I haven’t mentioned that have worked in some small way for the Leopard’s in 2004. You are helping to make a difference in your children’s and grandchildren’s lives. Through your assistance and support, they are being encouraged to pursue healthy and rewarding sporting activities, to make new friends and to learn new physical skills that will contribute to their self concept and self esteem in the future. Thank you and I wish every child and parent great success in 2004. Ian Patterson, |
